Upstreet Craft Brewing Announces Million Acres Series
(Charlottetown, PE) - Upstreet Craft Brewing has announced Million Acres Series. Million Acres will bring you unique barrel-aged and farmhouse-style ales, hand-bottled and bottle-conditioned in very limited batches.
The first release in the series is Twice Hopped Sour with Centennial and Chinook. It was released today and is only available at their taproom. This is the first beer brewed to use PEI-grown barley from Spring Valley Farms as the base 2-row malt. The beer was soured in the kettle using a house-grown culture started from a handful of that grain a couple of days before the brew day. At that same time, their hop farmers at Moose Mountain Hops and Southam Farms in New Brunswick were harvesting their 2017 crop of Chinook and Centennial. Upstreet asked for a favour and were able to get enough dried and pelletized to pull off the brew day just in time. After fermentation was over, they added dry-hops at double the rate of any beer they’ve ever done before.
Upstreet says "As with all of our Million Acres beers, we encourage you to gather more than one bottle. Enjoy it right away if you so chose, and then on a special occasion, crack into another bottle, and we really mean crack with all your might because those corks are in there tight!" The beer is 5.5% ABV and 15 IBU.

Upstreet releases Red Stone Stock Ale
(Charlottetown, PE) - In 1777, after Rev Theophilus Desbrisay was taken prisoner by privateers and released without a penny to his name, he journeyed to Charlottetown determined to share his faith. There he found his parish meeting in the back of an old tavern; a welcoming community that would help shape the Island to what it is now.
To commemorate this bit of Island history, and to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Upstreet Craft Brewing have created Red Stone Stock Ale, a very special brew inspired by the era. Oak aged and lightly carbonated to bring out the simple grain bill of English Pale, Medium Crystal and Chocolate malts, this beer packs a complex flavour profile that offers a mild tartness and dry finish.
Red Stone Stock Ale blends traditions of yesterday with the tools of today, and will be available in limited quantities in liquor stores across the Island. Proceeds from the sale of every bottle will help fund St. Paul's Anglican Church outreach programs.

Upstreet releases Kettle Soured IPA
(Charlottetown, PE) - In honour of International IPA Day Upstreet Craft Brewing is releasing Island Hopspitality 2017 coming in at 4.5% ABV and 10 IBU.
The beer they have made is a hazy, sour, and hoppy and technically might classify as a Kettle Soured New England Session IPA, as they have become fameous for untraditional. Upstreet says "Using a light pilsner-base malt in combination with equal parts wheat, oats, and light crystal, lends some nice body and residual sweetness to an otherwise thin beer. This was soured in the kettle using naturally-occurring lactobacillus from grain in a 2-step 72-hr process. For the "IPA" part , we generously hopped using our new double-whirlpool and double-dry hopping techniques, derived for Go Devil, with Centennial, Azacca and Sorachi Ace."
It is their first full-batch sour and will be releasing it on Thursday August 3rd at opening.

Gahan House Halifax has a couple of interesting beers to look for. Karen Allen was visiting Emily from Boxing Rock last week and she was kind enough to let her harvest some Cascade and Chinook hops from her back yard. Karen will be doing a wet-hop pale ale with them that will be released the last week of September. Also being released that week will be an Oyster Beer to promote the Oyster Festival on October 4th. It`s fairly experimental, but the plan is for it to be an ultra pale ale with lemon and sea salt. Going to throw a bit of rye malt in there for a touch of spiciness. The plan is for it to pair well with oysters and it will be on tap at Gahan the whole week leading up to Oyster Festival.
Thanks for following along this week and until next time enjoy responsibly.
