Hello and welcome to the June 19th edition of the Maritime Beer Report.
The latest Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation annual sales information released this week shows continued exceptional growth for Nova Scotia made craft beer. According to the NSLC, Nova Scotia craft beer sales grew last year by 25.4% compared to 22% the year before. This growth is even more significant given the 1.2% decline in sales in the beer category overall. Overall, the Nova Scotia Craft Beer industry grew 35.9 % last year, including more than $10 million in direct sales from breweries and the private wine stores, in addition to the over $5 million of sales through the NSLC retail outlets.

Maritime Beer Report - March 6, 2015
Hello and welcome to the Maritime Beer Report for March 6th.
Big Axe Brewery introduced three new beers this week. First up is Blonde Ale Version 2. Light golden ale, weighs in at 4.6% ABV. Hopped to 26 IBUs with Perle and El Dorado, that gives this beer fruity and citrus aroma and a clean, refreshing taste. Next up is Partridgeberry Belgian Wheat. Belgian Witbier-style brewed with a mixture of pale malts, Saaz and other aroma hops, oranges and spices like coriander and cloves. Five pounds of partridgeberries were added at the secondary fermentation step, which gives this beer a mild but complex tartness and a wild berry aroma. Lastly is a Chaga Porter. Dark brown in colour this beer offers mild roastiness and pleasant caramel character. Brewed with traditional English aroma hops and a heaping pile of Chaga mushroom to create a unique tasting profile. It weighs in at 5.4% ABV. Chaga is harvested in birch forests and has been used in Europe for its health benefits for centuries. We use New Brunswick chaga that is responsibly harvested by our friend and wild foods enthusiast Dwight at Fiddlehead Heaven Forest Products. These will be available at the brewery and will premiere at Fredericton Craft Beer Festival tomorrow.
Les Brasseurs du Petit-Sault says it's finally here! Their Maple Brown Ale, brewed by women, on tap at the Brewtique as of noon yesterday and Saturday at the Fredericton Craft Beer Festival. Out also this week is Lt. Ingall Session Pale Ale. This is the collaboration with our friends at MaltBroue to use 100% local malts. Both these ales come in at 4.6% ABV.

It's UNB's 50th Anniversary and they've asked HRB to brew a special beer to help celebrate the occasion. So since it's their "Golden" Anniversary the brewer decided to brew up a Golden Ale for them. This beer will be available on tap at the Beaverbrook House in Saint John on March 19th.
Boxing Rock Brewing Company are launching a Rye India Pale Ale called The Next Chapter. It's a perfectly balanced IPA made with New Brunswick grown malt, with a healthy helping of premium rye malt and some dark roasted malt for a fantastic colour. Sorry Nova Scotia the whole batch is heading to New Brunswick. Not only will we launch it at the Fredericton Craft Beer Festival, we've sent some to The King Street Ale House, The Laundromat in Moncton, The Tide and Boar in Moncton, and Pepper's Pub in Saint John. It is available at select ANBL stores in 650 ml bottles and weighs in at 6.3% ABV.

Launched at last night’s gala Professor McDougall’s Weisse ~ Guy Hefeweizen glows hazy deep gold with notes of banana and clove with a hint of bubble-gum. This beer goes great with gouda cheese and cured meats. It is a 5.4% ABV and 8 IBUs beer.
Professor McDougall’s Weisse ~ Guy Hefeweizen is hitting the shelves at NSLC, all private’s stores for brewery fresh at Garrison in the Halifax Seaport
Rock Bottom Brewpub says they changed up one of their "Standard" Beer on tap. For the next while they will not be carrying the Bigwater Brown but instead we will switch over to the Loyalist ESB. The Loyalist E.S.B.is a classic English pub ale. Burnished copper coloured with an aroma of toast, honey, and pear. A crisp malt body featuring bitter chocolate and toffee. Earthy, balanced bitter finish. Perfectly pairs with crispy appetizers and of course Fish'n Chips. It is a 5.6% ABV and 35 IBU beer.

Maritime Beer Report - July 4, 2014
Hello and welcome to the July 4th edition of the Maritime Beer Report.
PEI Brewing Company released a beer late last Friday called VIC Park Pale Ale. It is now on tap only at PEIBC. They describe it as follows "effervescence and balanced bitterness make it a great summer beer" and this one comes in at 5.2% ABV.
Big Spruce Brewing teased us with a picture of spruce tips a say it is "almost time to brew Tip of the Spear Spruce Tip IPA". This is an extremely delicious beer and if you get the chance to have some don't pass it up. It should be out in 3 or 4 weeks
The Summerfest Blonde is being brewed by Garrison Brewing brewmaster Daniel Girard celebrating their sponsorship of the TD Halifax Jazz Festival. The beer was described by Tenille Goodspeed, Marketing Assistant at the Halifax Jazzfest, as "a light, crystal clear, refreshing beer that is just the thing to have at an outdoor festival" She also relayed that the beer recipe breaks down as about 10% wheat, 90% 2nd Row (Maritime) barley and a dash of Columbus hop with a IBU of 8 and a 4% ABV.
Granite Brewery says the Honey Ginger Beer is back on for the summer. They say "It is a light pale ale with a hint of honey and ginger. It is available in growlers at the beer store". This beer is 4.8% ABV.
North Brewing Company shared that their beer dinner with the Harbourstone on July 10th was sold out, but have decided to add a few more tickets and expand the event. You can get tickets before they are gone on eventbrite.
Propeller Brewing Company has a couple of items to relay, first is that as of today, July 4th, they will be raising prices to $10 for 1.89L Growlers and $6.50 for 1L Flip-Tops. They will continue to have Growler Wednesdays. They say the price increase is due to rising costs of raw ingredients such as malt, hops, and even water. I think we can all understand that.
They also released news of their newest One Hit Wonder that is a Session IPA and is now available at the Prop Shop. They say "this dry hopped Pale Ale arrives weighing in at a modest 4.5% ABV. and 45 IBU's. However, due to ample late hop additions it packs flavourful hop kick".
Tatamagouche Brewing Co. say they now have 650mL of our Hippie Dippie Pale and Butcher Block Red available at the brewery and the Truro Farmers Market on Saturdays. I noticed they are also hiring. If you are interested in joining Nova Scotia's newest brewery drop them a line.
Lastly, tomorrow is the Stillwell takeover by Bad Apple Brewhouse. when Jeff told me about this a few months ago I thought it was cool but really ambitious. I am glad it is coming to fruition. For more details see my post on my blog listing the 15 beers BAB is bringing.
Thanks for joining me this week. Have a great week and I'll be here again next week so until then enjoy responsible.

I had a nice chat with Authentic Seacoast Brewing rep today and things are busy in Guysborough, they are getting more space for storage and looking at some uniquely Maritime seasonals and distilling as well. Certainly exciting times for the town.
I would also like to thanks Fredericton Craft Beer Fest for giving me a great growler and Chris MacDonald for bringing it to Halifax for me.
That is all I have for this week, thanks for joining me and until next time enjoy responsibly.

Smoke's Poutinerie Fredericton has introduced a new poutine, that's exclusive to Fredericton, that uses Picaroons Traditional Ales 104th REGIMENT braised local beef. Man that sounds awesome.

I also see they are brewing the next iteration of their test brews called #3459. On one last note their St Peters Belgian Style Strong Ale will hit the shelves next week.

The brewery further says they are starting lab work at the Grand Falls NBCC next week to test two new recipes, a blonde ale and a Belgian white, which were developed by their Belgian partner, Brunehaut Brewery. The first beers will be hitting the market in June, in time for the tourist season.

Bad Apple Brewhouse shared on February 1st they were filling barrels with Black & Tackle. Expect some of the barrel aged stout in the near future.
Boxing Rock Brewing increased production capacity this week by adding a 34-hectolitre fermentation tank. This will allow them to brew more often and keep up with demand for their products. They also have a teaser posted of something they are doing with the Ladies Beer League of a kettle of apples.
Garrison Brewing Co. 2014 home brew off is down to less than 2 weeks to get your entries in. I am looking forward to see who this years winner is. For any brewer looking to work with Garrison they are looking to hire one. Check the website for the details.
Granite Brewery in Halifax said they brewed Dunkelbock yesterday. It will be ready around the middle of March.

He is looking into getting zoning so he can do it in his home initially.
Thanks for everyone for entering my contest so far, there is still time to get in and there will be more opportunities next week. Check out my blog for more details.
