Tidehouse Brewing Brings Out The Sex RIS

(Halifax, NS) - Tidehouse Brewing is bringing a giant beer to its tiny shop on Salter Street. Calling it their fruity summer sipper, The Sex Raspberry Russian Imperial Stout is available Friday at 2:00 PM in 340 ml bottles and 4 oz glasses.
Whether it is a bottle to share with a friend or a night ender this dark, rich, stupid strong, chocolatey, raspberry stout fits the bill. The Sex is fortified with port for a little extra zip to help this beer top out at 11.9% ABV.

2 Crows Brewing To Release Linnea Imperial Stout

(Halifax, NS) - On December 6th 2 Crows Brewing releases its interpretation of a Russian Imperial Stout using a lot of flavours that are used in Finnish cuisine — salty liquorice and cardamom. Linnea used a bit of sea salt, liquorice root, star anise, and cardamom pods as well as about 95% Finnish malt too, from Viking malt. 
It is the Finnish 100th year of independence this year (100 years independent from Russia).Brewer Jeremy Taylor lived briefly in Finland where his brother currently lives there with his family. The beer is named after Jeremy's niece. Linnea is 9.1% and 62 IBU and was brewed back in late August, to allow it time to mellow and condition for its release.

Big Spruce Brewing releases Ra Ra Rasputin RIS

(Nyanza, NS) - Big Spruce Brewing has announced it is releasing its first bottled product this week. Ra Ra Rasputin is a Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout that aged for two months in Glenora Single Malt whisky barrels. 
The first bottling run was on their new Canadian made DFC2 fully automatic two head filler from HDP. 
Ra Ra Rasputin weighs in at 10.5% ABV and 41 IBUs and will be released on Thursday February 11th in 650 ml bottles only at the brewery with a limit of 12 bottles per person. There will also be a few limited kegs heading to The Stubborn Goat Gastropub, Stillwell and Battery Park Beer Bar.

Beer Review - Bad Apple Brewhouse Black & Tackle Russian Imperial Stout

Bad Apple Brewhouse is currently Nova Scotia's newest brewery. The Black & Tackle is one other their two original beers and quickly became a favorite of mine. I also got to help make a batch of this 9.0% ABV stout.


Appearance
The Black & Tackle is as the name states black with a tan head that dissipates fairly quickly.

Aroma
There is a distinct chocolate and coffee aroma with a slight berry like sweetness.

Taste
The coffee and chocolate are dominant in the beginning with a nice dry finish.

Mouthfeel
Medium mouth feel with a good amount of carbonation. There is a slight alcohol feel but not much surprisingly for this high alcohol brew.

Overall
It is a nice beer to sip for a evening or to have with food. It can be purchased at the brewery in Somerset Nova Scotia or occasionally on tap at Stillwell. I guess the bottomline on this is a great beer brewed here.
