Trider's Craft Beer Releases Hibrrrnation
(Amherst, NS) - Trider's Craft Beer launched a new beer in growlers with 500ml bottles later this week. It's an extra strong winter ale at 8.5% ABV called "Hibrrrnation". Trider's says "For a nation no stranger to the cold, we know the importance of making the winter warmer. Full bodied and ringing in at a hearty 8.5%, Hibrrrnation is an extra strong belly warmer perfect for sitting by the fire and kicking off a long winter’s nap. We loaded this deep chestnut brown ale with demerara sugar and unfiltered local honey for an extra sweet and rich warmth. The sweetness of this great big brew stays grounded by the earthy tones of willamette hops." The Chestnut Brown Ale will disappear with the snow, so get it while you can. Available now at the brewery.

Trider's Craft Beer releases Strawberry Sour
(Amherst, NS) - Trider's Craft Beer made a lacto kettle soured beer featuring a healthy percentage of rice for lightness of body as the base. They added three separate additions of fresh local strawberries sourced from Nicnat Farms, located just down the road on the shore of the Northumberland Strait.
The berries were fermented with a base beer, added for some warm aging, and again during cold conditioning. The beer came out with a great rosy colour, and clocks in at 3.5% ABV and 9.5 IBU. The moderate to high carbonation level provides a thick slightly pink head with clear and distinct strawberry aromas on the nose. The lacto provides some definite tartness, but not so much that the strawberry flavour doesn't shine through. Despite a fairly clean tartness the beer retains a slight farmy character as well. This beer will be released in growlers only, and be made available by the keg while quantities last. They had so many great ideas for a name, the decision became nearly impossible. In light of that, this easy drinking late summer crusher, is dubbed quite simply, the Strawberry Sour.

NSLC Sees Large Influx of Local Craft Beer to Stores
(Halifax, NS) - The NSLC is excited about the development of the Nova Scotia craft beer industry and are preparing for a tidal wave of local beer hitting their shelves. By May they will have 42 Nova Scotia Craft Beer listings from 18 breweries in stores. Listings include many first time appearances including established brewers Big Spruce Brewing and North Brewing and many new brewers including Trider's Craft Beer, 2 Crows Brewing, and Downeast Beer Factory. The NSLC will also have Nova Scotia specific beer sections in stores.
When the new listings are added Nova Scotia Craft Beer will constitute 19% of all NSLC beer listings. Currently local craft beer is 65% of their total craft beer sales and 3% of total beer sales overall.
This move is great for all involved with local beer fans having greater access to regionally available brands, giving the brewers better access to consumers and the NSLC supporting and encouraging local brewers.

Trider's Craft Beer to open Brewery in Amherst
(Amherst, NS) - Trider's Craft Beer will commence brewing in Amherst this year. They will be setting up in the Amherst Industrial Park in leased space in the incubator mall the middle of next month. The brew space will also have a small storefront for purchases and it may end up licensed as a tap room as well depending on how things go.
Brewmaster Joe Potter says they have a 7 BBL system on order that should arrive by late October and hope to be sending out batches from it right around the new year. Look for two or three easy drinking and straight ahead ales including what they call Scotian Pale Ale (a very lightly hopped APA) with a revolving cast of locally themed seasonals as well as a light lager for next summer.
Trider's plan to start selling beer from a 10 gallon pilot system before the end of summer while they are waiting for their new production system. Look for them to be active in the farmers markets from Amherst to Halifax at that point. Long term plans is to set up a tap room and store front in downtown Amherst serving light fare or to partner up with a local food establishment to offer some eats. This location will also house a small batch system to brew periodic specialty releases.
Joining Joe on this venture is his wife who will be the operations and retail manager and his brother-in-law who will handle marketing. Watch for details here as the continue along with development.
