2018 Atlantic Canadian Beer Awards Results

(Halifax,NS) - The fifth annual Atlantic Canadian Beer Awards were held on October 28th in Halifax with a Gala and Dinner at The Stubborn Goat Gastropub. The judging of 376 entries from 56 breweries and cideries had taken place the previous week end in Halifax. 

Atlantic breweries and cideries shared the 45 medals awarded in 15 categories as well as six special awards ( To see full medal counts see Table 1 and category details see Table 2). There were a few changes over previous years with a new Sour category being added as well as New Brewery and New Cider House of the Year. The People's Choice Award and Brewpub of the Year were dropped in this year's competition. 

The big winner of the evening was Tatamagouche Brewing taking seven medals and Brewery of the Year with 2 Crows Brewing nabbing five medals and Beer of the Year with their Forever Young. The inaugural New Brewery of the Year went to Four Rivers Brewing in Bathurst NB.

In the Cider category Riverdale Orchard Cidery from Bonshaw PE took New Cider House of the Year,  Cider of the Year for 2 Scots 3 Apples and tied with Chain Yard Urban Cidery for Cider House of the Year. 

It was another banner year for Atlantic craft and organizers are hoping for a bigger and better show next year.

2017 Atlantic Canadian Beer Awards Results

(Halifax,NS) - The fourth annual Atlantic Canadian Beer Awards were held on October 22nd in Halifax with a Gala and Dinner at The Stubborn Goat Gastropub. The judging of over 300 entries had taken place the previous week end on October 14th and 15th in Halifax. 

Atllantic breweries and cideries shared the 42 medals awarded in 14 categories as well as seven special awards ( To see full medal counts see Table 1 and category details see Table 2). The People's Choice Award was garnered by an online survey from all the submitted beers and ciders. 

The big winner of the evening was Big Spruce Brewing taking five medals and Brewery of the Year with Breton Brewing nabbing two gold medals and Beer of the Year or "Best of Show" with their Stirling Hefeweizen. Last but not least Paddy's Pub took Brewpub of the year.

The Cider House of the Year as well as a gold and bronze went to Chain Yard Urban Cidery and the Cider of the Year was awarded to Red Rover Craft Cider for their Fall Cider. 

The People’s Choice for Beer and Cider went to Upstreet Craft Brewing for Go Devil grabbing the beer category and Yip Cider getting the cider category for their Original.

2016 Atlantic Canadian Beer Awards

The third annual Atlantic Canadian Beer Awards were held from November 4th to the 6th in Halifax. The judging of over 257 entries was on Friday and Saturday at The Dome and the Gala on Sunday evening at The Stubborn Goat Gastropub. 

Thirty-five breweries and seven cideries shared the 42 medals awarded in 14 categories as well as seven special awards ( To see full medal counts see Table 1 and category details see Table 2). The People's Choice Award returned this year by an online survey of all the submitted beers and ciders. 

The big winners of the evening were Bad Apple Brewhouse and Big Spruce Brewing each taking four medals with Bad Apple being awarded Brewery of the Year and Big Spruce nabbing the Beer of the Year or "Best of Show" with their Ra Ra Rasputin Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout. Rockbottom Brewpub also had a great showing as well getting a gold for the IPA category and Brewpub of the Year.

The Cider House of the Year as well as two medals went to Annapolis Cider Company and the Cider of the Year was awarded to ShipBuilders Cider from ShipBuilders Cider Company. 

The People’s Choice returned this year for Beer and Cider with upstart Port Rexton Brewing's T-Rex Porter grabbing the beer category and Annapolis Cider Company's Crisp & Dry getting the cider category. 

It is a real pleasure to join in the celebration of the best of craft in our region. Hats off to CAPS-Atlantic for having this and thanks to the organizer Mark DeWolfe, Head Judge Chris MacDonald and with judges and stewards for their tireless work behind the scenes.

2015 Atlantic Canadian Beer Awards

The second annual Atlantic Canadian Beer Awards were held over the week end in Halifax. The judging of over 200 entries was on Friday and Saturday at The Old Triangle and the Gala on Sunday evening at The Stubborn Goat. 

Twenty-one breweries and cideries shared the 40 medals awarded in 14 categories as well as three special awards ( To see full medal counts see Table 1 and category details see Table 2). This year the beer categories were reduced from 15 to 12 and 2 cider categories were added. Further, the People's Choice was removed as well as Brewpub of the Year and a new award of Cidery of the Year was added. 

Garrison Brewing was the big winner of the night taking three gold and one silver medal as well as Brewery of the Year. Another notable item was Les Brasseurs du Petit-Sault swept the entire Belgian Style Specialty Ales category taking all three medals. 

The two new cider catergories were were dominated by Cider House and Red Rover Craft Cider who also took Cidery of the Year. 

Lastly, the coveted Beer of the Year or "Best of Show" went to Box Cutter IPA from Bad Apple Brewhouse.  

It was another great success this year, it is a real pleasure to join in the celebration of the best of craft in our region.
